Residents wake to sinkhole outside homes in Adelaide street
A giant sinkhole has been created by a burst water main in Adelaide.
Residents in the inner-south suburb of Mitcham were woken overnight by the sound of gushing water.
Emergency crews rushed to try and protect the street, creating a makeshift dam.

The water came from a high-pressure line which burst under the intersection of Carrick Hill Drive and Fullarton Road around 3am.
It buckled the bitumen at one end and created a sinkhole at the other.
Residents said they struggled to believe what they were seeing when they were woken either by the sound of the water or the flashing emergency lights.
Michael De Feudis said the torrent was strong.
"When the firies were trying to get across there it was actually washing their feet from underneath them it was flowing that fast," he said.
The water damaged some retaining walls and turned gardens to sludge.
SA Water blamed recent rain for the main bursting.
Engineers are investigating.
