Adelaide residents are being urged to brace for a day of dangerous weather on Saturday.

Severe weather warnings have been issued as a powerful front looms, bringing wind gusts of up to 120 kilometres per hour.

Areas on alert include the Adelaide metro area, Mount Lofty Ranges, Renmark, Whyalla, Clare, Maitland, and Murray Bridge.

Winds will be strongest in elevated areas including the Mount Lofty Ranges.

It could be an unnerving start to the day, with the strong northerly winds lifting temperatures up to 10 degrees above average across the state.

As the dangerous winds close in, residents are being urged to secure any loose items around the yard and refrain from parking cars under trees.

It follows wild weather in the city last Monday, when residents were hit with power outages and localised damage.
