An Adelaide pensioner is begging thieves to return his brand-new e-bike, which he relies on as his only mode of transport.

Wayne Anderson, 71, says he saved up for five months to afford the bike, only to have it stolen within 48 hours.

Despite spending $2500 on the bike and investing in a new lock, Anderson's e-bike vanished from his Glenelg carport.

"I can't sleep at night because of the worry," he said.

"I don't know why they pick on me."

The theft of Anderson's e-bike has left him without a convenient means of transportation, preventing him from visiting his fishing mates at the Glenelg Jetty.

Local resident Tim has started a crowdfunding campaign to raise $1800 to buy a replacement for Anderson.

"His nickname's the Godfather and with good reason. He's a bit of a guru," Tim said.

Anderson, who uses a walker, decided to try an e-bike after three unlucky experiences with mobility scooters.

One was stolen in Rundle Mall, another's battery caught fire and the last broke down.

No one has been caught and the bike hasn't been recovered.
