Adelaide Oval security in spotlight ahead of Gather Round

Adelaide Oval is promising an increased police presence, beefed-up security, and thorough bag checks at this weekend's Gather Round in the wake of the recent security scare at the MCG.

The stadium is preparing for a massive influx of more than 200,000 fans across five games, but fan safety is top of mind.

"It's our responsibility to continue to earn the right to host Gather Round," Adelaide Oval chief executive Nick Addison said.

"We're fully focused on trying to raise the bar every year.

"We're always learning and there's always insights.

"A lot of the time, any measures you put in place, you hope the public don't see it and aren't aware because all they care about is coming in and having a safe experience," he said.

On Saturday, Adelaide Oval staff will have just 90 minutes to turn around the entire stadium for the second game. 

"For us, it's managing more than the night before, getting it right, and on the day, really around divot repairs," Adelaide Oval curator Damien Hough said.

Meanwhile, the Barossa Valley is gearing up for its Gather Round debut with the state-of-the-art Lyndoch precinct hosting a food and wine village, essentially a giant street party. 

Local venue The Clubhouse has been booked out for over a year and is expecting more than 7000 revellers.

"I think this is an experience no one would want to miss," venue general manager Jack Ferrett said. 

"If you're a football lover and you like a drink of wine, there's only one place I'd want to be this weekend."
