An Adelaide teenager is accused of murdering a woman by stabbing her up to 40 times, a court has heard.

The 18-year-old woman, who cannot be named, faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday charged over the murder at Kilburn, in Adelaide's north, last Friday.

The court heard the woman was captured on CCTV arriving at the 61-year-old victim's house and the body was found by two people about 30 minutes later.

The victim had between 30 and 40 stab wounds to her upper body, police said.

Police allege the accused woman was found wearing bloodstained clothing, and a bloodstained bag and several knives were found at her house.

The court also heard the 18-year-old's boyfriend had accused her of stabbing him twice this year, but he did not proceed with charges.

The woman smiled throughout Monday's hearing and said "I love you mum" as she was led from the dock.

She was refused bail and will reappear before the court in March.
