Adelaide marks 80 years of services

ADELAIDE'S CENTENARY DAWN SERVICE:

* HOW MANY: An estimated 10,000 people gathered at the War Memorial spilling into North Terrace.

* WHO WAS THERE: Governor Hieu Van Le, Premier Jay Weatherill, Chief Justice Chris Kourakis, Senator Simon Birmingham.

* INTERESTING FACT: Adelaide's dawn service marked 80 years since the first one was held in the city in 1935. On that occasion only about 200 people attended.

* WHAT WAS SAID:

* "There is no romance in war, only futility, loss and grief." Anzac Day Committee chairman Bill Denny.

* "It's a special day and it's 100 years since Gallipoli. That makes it even more important that we came." Kirsten, who attended the service.
