Adelaide man admits explosives charges

An Adelaide man charged over the discovery of explosive material at his home has pleaded guilty to the offences.

Aaron Ellis admitted on Friday to two counts of taking a step to manufacture an explosive device and to one count of possessing information on the manufacture of an explosive device.

He was remanded in custody to face a first sentencing hearing in the District Court on January 31.

Ellis was arrested in April after police found explosive material at his northern suburbs property.

Suburban streets were shut down for several hours as they dealt with the situation.

Speaking after the arrest, Acting Assistant Commissioner Craig Patterson said while the discovery was "extremely alarming" there was no evidence it was terror-related.

Defence counsel previously described Ellis as a man with a curiosity for chemistry and physics but with no intention of causing harm or damage.
