Adelaide gets new Anglican archbishop

The Anglican Church has named Bishop Geoffrey Smith the new Archbishop of Adelaide.

Bishop Smith's appointment was confirmed at a special election synod on Saturday involving about 260 clergy and lay representatives from Anglican parishes across Adelaide.

He replaces Jeffrey Driver, who retired in August after 11 years as archbishop.

Bishop Smith is currently the assistant bishop, general manager and registrar of the diocese of Brisbane.
