Prosecutors to appeal convicted pedophile’s release

Adelaide residents are breathing a sigh of relief, after learning the imminent release of notorious pedophile Colin Humphrys has been put on hold.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) today revealed he will challenge the decision that sparked outrage in Brompton and Bowden a little over a week ago.

"Well done. That's all I have to say. Get him off and out of our suburbs," local Marian Gronthos said.

"It would be horrible if a paedophile lived in this area."

Humphrys was set to be released on May 14, under strict conditions, despite the Parole Board's fear he would re-offend.

He will now remain behind bars until an ultimate decision on his fate is reached by the Full Court of the Supreme Court, at a later date.

The state's Attorney-General welcomed the move.

"I'm pleased that he's considering the matter," Vickie Chapman told 9NEWS, "we are obviously hopeful that it will proceed to its logical conclusion namely to be successful."

She reiterated that she will do all she can to keep the child molester behind bars.

"In the event that the appeal is unsuccessful I confirm, as I did last week indicate, that we will consider other options."

Residents said they are hopeful the judges will rule in their favour.

"For children’s safety and for our own wellbeing and peace of mind, we need to make sure, that these sorts of creature ,are not nearby," Brompton mother Megan Clements said.

The 66-year-old has served multiple jail terms for abusing young boys, with his crimes dating back to 1985.
