SA men charged after dog shot with arrow
A man has been accused of using a bow and arrow to shoot a rottweiler while another man stabbed the dog in the head, says the RSPCA.
The dog, which was later euthanised, is believed to have been involved in an incident with a child earlier that day, RSPCA South Australia chief executive officer Tim Vasudeva said on Friday.
The RSPCA inspectorate has charged the men with intentionally causing serious harm to an animal and for failing to take reasonable steps to mitigate harm last April.
The men are due to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on July 17.
"The Animal Welfare Act is very clear as to what constitutes ill-treatment of an animal," Mr Vasudeva said in a statement.
"People should not not take matters into their own hands.
"Everyone has a responsibility to ensure animals do not suffer."
The maximum penalty for aggravated ill-treatment of an animal under the Animal Welfare Act is four years jail or a fine of up to $50,000, he said.
