SA man 'murdered after Vic pokies win'

A South Australian man won $6000 while gambling the night before he was abducted and murdered in Victoria, a court has been told.

Gordon Hamm, of Mount Gambier, was forcibly removed from his car and bashed, then put into another car at Nelson, in Victoria's far west, in July.

The 34-year-old's body has never been found.

Mount Gambier men Mark James Moreland, 35, and Christopher Tippens, 29, have been charged with murder and face a committal hearing in Warrnambool next Monday.

A third Mount Gambier man, Tai Thorp, 21, has been charged with being an accessory to murder and perverting the course of justice, and was denied bail on Wednesday.

Homicide detective Aaron Roche told the Melbourne Magistrates Court police had evidence the three men were involved in the distribution of the drug ice in Mount Gambier.

He said Mr Hamm won $6000 the night before he disappeared.

Detective Senior Constable Roche said Thorp made a false report to police and his girlfriend provided a false alibi on the night of the murder.

In denying Thorp bail, Magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg said he was an unacceptable risk of reoffending.
