SA justice system can be better

South Australia's justice system has room to improve to make it more accessible, efficient and fair, Attorney-General John Rau says.

Mr Rau, who recently took on the new portfolio of justice reform, says there's potential for broad changes.

"Our justice system needs to be accessible, people focused, efficient and fair, he said.

"If our system doesn't meet these benchmarks then we need to make changes.

"I think there is scope for improvements across our entire justice system."

Mr Rau will outline his views to the legal profession at the Legal Services Commission conference on Friday.

He believes the first work will be in the area of criminal law where the government will work closely with the Criminal Justice Reform Council established last year.
