SA donated blood wastage lowest in country

South Australia wastes the least amount of donated blood in the country, SA Health says.

Donated blood waste has fallen to less than 1.6 per cent since 2011, well below the national average of four per cent, says chief medical officer Professor Paddy Williams.

"Managing blood effectively is critical to ensuring generously donated blood gets to the sick and injured where and when it is needed," he said in a statement.
