Sweet! New ruby KitKat unveiled in Australia

An exotic new pink KitKat has landed on Australian stores – but the price of the bar might make you blush.

The historic ruby chocolate stands out from white, milk and dark, boasting a pretty pink-pink hue and a “unique berry flavour”.

Two editions of the Ruby KitKat are being rolled out exclusively at the KitKat Chocolatory in Melbourne Central and online from today.

Sweet tooths will need to be prepared to cough up significantly more than the usual price of a KitKat, which averages $2 for a four-finger bar.

Sublime Ruby, available for $5, comprises one crisp wafer finger enrobed in “premium” ruby chocolate.

Then there’s Black Label Ruby- an eight-finger bar bejewelled with dried strawberries, raspberries and caramelised meringue.

With a $20 price tag, it’s reserved especially for chocolate aficionados.

Ruby chocolate is considered the fourth natural variety of chocolate- developed by cocoa producers Barry Callebaut last year, eighty years after the white kind.

Reviews of the Ruby KitKat in the 9NEWS Melbourne office were mostly positive, but some testers said the aftertaste was “weird”.
