Royals narrate their home movies released for the first time

Never-before-seen home movies of the Royal Family have offered a remarkable insight into the lives of Queen Elizabeth and her children.

In a BBC documentary to air on Sunday, the Royals watch and commentate on the films, which span decades.

The Queen wistfully discusses watching her sons play in the sand dunes at a beach holiday in the 1950s, as Prince Charles wipes away a tear.

She then watches footage of herself as a teenager, enjoying a tea party with her father, mother and sister Margaret in the garden at Windsor Castle. Princes William and Harry watch misty-eyed as they see their father and grandfather playing on the same cart they used to ride themselves at Balmoral Castle.

"Grandpa is having more fun than anyone else. There is something about banks that all children just want to roll down. George is just the same," William said.

They then laugh at seeing the younger William running around in excitement at his younger brother's 1984 christening at Windsor, and remark on Princess Diana's propensity for wearing blue.

The documentary marks Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday, which took place yesterday.
