'Royal prank' radio station remains silent

The Australian radio station at the centre of the royal prank will not be commenting during the inquest into the death of nurse Jacintha Saldanha in London.

The British nurse was found dead days after she answered a prank call from two Sydney radio DJs to the hospital treating Kate Middleton for morning sickness in 2012.

The long-awaited coronial inquest into her death begins on Thursday night (AEST) in London, but Southern Cross Austereo is remaining silent on the issue.

In a statement, the company said it does not expect to be in a position to make any comment on the proceedings. "If appropriate and or relevant, the company may issue a statement when the inquest has concluded," Southern Cross Austereo said. This comes a day after the family of Ms Saldanha publicly congratulated Prince William and his wife, who are expecting their second child.

The announcement came this week that the Duchess is pregnant again and suffering acute morning sickness just as in 2012.

The two radio DJs who made the prank phone call, Mel Greig and Michael Christian won't give evidence at the inquest either in person or via video-link.

However Southern Cross Austereo, which in early 2013 won the right to be represented at the inquest, has submitted evidence.
