A Melbourne man has been charged with rape over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl in her Roxburgh Park home, as well as over a separate alleged New Year's Eve attack on a woman in her Coolaroo home.

Police arrested the 30-year-old man this morning over the Roxburgh Park incident, and have since charged him with a total of seven counts of rape over the two alleged assaults.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and seven of rape, Victoria Police Detective Sergeant Rod Neylan said.

Det. Sgt Neylan said police will allege the man armed himself with a knife, broke into the home of the 38-year-old Coolaroo woman and raped her on December 31.

It will be further alleged the man then broke into the Roxburgh Park home on Friday, February 26, and raped the 16-year-old, Det. Sgt Neylan said.

Three counts of rape relate to the alleged Coolaroo incident, while four relate to the alleged Roxburgh Park incident.

Security footage showed a man fleeing through Roxburgh Park streets after the alleged attack and police shared it in their appeal to identify the alleged offender.

The man made a brief out-of-sessions court appearance tonight and did not apply for bail.

Coolaroo is located about 5km from Roxburgh Park.
