Ride For Sick Kids raises $250,000 for Ronald McDonald House

A band of 35 cyclists has raised more than $250,000 for charity along a 1000-kilometre ride in South Australia.

The Ride For Sick Kids set out from Port Lincoln seven days ago, rolling into Adelaide this afternoon.

"It was a tough, tough week for everyone," one rider said.

The money raised will go towards Ronald McDonald House.

It was a cause close to rider Trent Adams's heart.

"Our oncologist and nurses, they saved my daughter's life," he said.

"But I credit Ronald McDonald House with looking after our entire family, and that's a very special thing."

The fundraiser will help support families like the Laffins, from Renmark, who lost one of their twin daughters at birth.

"We were struggling a lot with our situation, and it has just meant the world for us to be close with the accomodation and to be accomodated for," mum Krystal said.

Ronald McDonald House regulars, Venita Coutts and her son Ezekial, say the house is a blessing.

"It was a home away from home," Ms Courts said.

"It was a very stressful time, because he wasn't expected to live. Thankfully he did."

The money raised will not only help run the facility, but also provide a learning program for sick kids and their siblings to catch up on classes they've missed.
