Rod Stewart joins busker in impromptu performance

Scottish music icon Sir Rod Stewart has treated onlookers to a surprise performance in London’s Piccadilly Circus.

Video filmed yesterday shows Stewart perform “Handbags and Gladrags” – a track Stewart himself covered in 1969 – alongside busker Henry Facey in an unscheduled appearance at the famous junction in West End.

A small crowd of bystanders can be seen gathered around to watch the impromptu act.

Stewart, known for a string of hits across the 70s, including “Maggie May”, “Reason to Believe” and “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna be Alright)”, has sold over 100 million records globally.

In 2000 Stewart was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent surgery. He has since become an active fundraiser for cancer charity The City of Hope Foundation.

Last year Stewart was knighted for his “services to music and charity”.
