Two in hospital after truck slams into freight train in Western Australia

Two 70-year-old men are still in hospital after a freight train collided with a road train near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.

The two cargo movers slammed into each other at a level crossing on Yarri Road just after 5pm on Monday.

The MLG truck had been carting three trailers of gold ore.

The two men behind the wheel of the Aurizon locomotive were flown to Perth in an emergency medical dash.

Aurizon told 9News in a statement it was "providing support to both employees and their families".

The truck driver, 43, suffered minor injuries.

MLG said in a statement their current concern was "for the people involved and their wellbeing".

The line was re-opened this morning as major crash detectives arrived to investigate.

The Rail Tram and Bus Union's WA branch is calling for the size of road trains on regional roads to be reduced.

"The legitimacy of these trucks and this type of truck on the road, it's just ridiculous," secretary Craig McKinley said.
