Road carnage as man allegedly drives across six lanes to flee police in Bankstown

A police officer struck by a car allegedly driven by a 29-year-old trying to escape arrest in Sydney escaped the collision with minor bumps and bruises.

The man allegedly fled police after they tried to speak with him about driving in the bus lane on Fairford Road in Bankstown in the city’s southwest.

After stopping at a red light and being approached by an officer, he allegedly hit the accelerator as soon as the light turned green.

Police say he ran across six lanes of traffic, causing a number of collisions and leaving his white Mazda a crumpled wreck.

He abandoned the car and jumped two fences before being finally caught.

The driver has been hit with 10 charges – including one for driving without a licence.
