Traffic eases after Western Ring Road smash
Police and emergency services were on the scene at a collision between a semi-trailer and a car in Broadmeadows this morning.
It’s believed the westbound truck collided with a car and the freeway barrier on the Western Ring Road about 4am.
The male truck driver, aged in his 40s, was not injured. The man in the blue car was taken to Northern Hospital with arm and leg injuries.
A crane attended the scene after peak hour to assist in removing the truck, which was loaded with scrap metal, from the barrier.
The smash caused cars to back up for several kilometres as motorists took pictures of the carnage, but the traffic is now back to normal.
Five people, including a critically injured man, were rushed to hospital after a semi-trailer crossed Sydney Road and smashed into at least 10 vehicles.
