House of Hancock goes ahead with disclaimer after Rinehart settlement

The second episode of the Nine Network's House of Hancock will be aired on Sunday after Gina Rinehart and the station reached a confidential agreement.

As part of the deal, which was reached out of court, a disclaimer featuring the word "fictionalised" will run ahead of the show.

No further details of the agreement will be made public.

The 11th-hour deal between Ms Rinehart and the network came after her barrister, Tom Blackburn, filed an urgent application for discovery in the Supreme Court on Friday.

After seeing promotions for the second episode, he said there was a real prospect the show would broadcast statements that were not entirely accurate and perhaps even made up.

He directed the court to comments from entertainment reporter Peter Ford that the second episode made Ms Rinehart look like an "obsessed, vindictive shrew".

Justice Peter Garling on Friday evening ordered Nine to hand over a copy of the show, which could be viewed only by the billionaire mining magnate and her lawyers.

Ms Rinehart's legal team then applied for an interlocutory injunction and the Supreme Court took the unusual step of sitting on a Saturday to resolve the dispute before the show aired.

After several adjournments and out-of-court discussion, the agreement was reached.

And come Sunday night, the show will go on.
