Rights concerns over remote welfare plans

A parliamentary committee on human rights has raised questions about government plans to create new welfare payments for Australians living in remote locations.
The bill, which falls under the indigenous affairs portfolio, provides for consequences if welfare recipients don't comply with obligations but doesn't specify what they would be.
The joint committee on human rights has asked for more information from the government about the penalties amid concerns the changes limit the right to social security.
