Rifle fired during Riverina confrontation

A man who allegedly fired a rifle during a confrontation with another man at an oval in NSW's Riverina region has been refused bail on firearm and intimidation charges.

Police say two 28-year-old men who knew each other met at the oval in Finley at about 9.30pm (AEDT) on Monday.

They say one of the men produced a rifle and fired a shot.

The other man immediately went to Finley Police Station and reported the matter.

On Tuesday morning, police executed a search warrant at a home in Finley and arrested a 28-year-old resident.

They also seized eight registered long-arm firearms, two registered handguns, two unregistered long-arm firearms, one unregistered handgun, small plastic bags containing white powder, axe handles and a large amount of ammunition.

The man was charged with firing a firearm in a public place, armed with intent to commit indictable offence, intimidation and possessing unauthorised firearms.

He was refused bail and will appear in Albury Local Court on Wednesday.
