Retirees still need pension, benefits

Analysis of Department of Social Services welfare applications by the CSIRO shows about 80 per cent of people who retire still need a pension or benefits.
In addition, half of all singles retire with total assets of less than $100,000, News Corp Australia reports.
The analysis shows that many people retire with too little put away and the group at greatest risk are those who don't own their homes.

The decline in home ownership driven by high property prices will affect retirement and superannuation policy in the future.
