Restaurant manager jailed in Adelaide for preying on young workers

An Adelaide restaurant manager has been jailed for nine years for raping an employee he was supposed to be training as well as assaulting a teenage worker.

32-year-old Miguel De Sa was found guilty by a jury earlier this year of two counts of rape against the female staff member.

In early 2020, under the guise of a work training session which involved teaching the victim how to pour beers and mix drinks, De Sa invited her to try the drinks before suggesting they continue at nearby bars.

The court heard the victim "began to feel extremely intoxicated."

"The victim's next memory is being in a silver car, she didn't know how she got there or where she was going, she then recalled being inside a house she didn't know in a bedroom she didn't recognise" Judge Anthony Allen said.

Judge Allen said it would have been "plainly obvious" to De Sa that his victim could not consent.

"You have not shown any insight or contrition for your offending and you continue to maintain your innocence," he said.

At the time of this offending De Sa was already on bail for indecently assaulting a teenage waitress at a cafe, for which he was later jailed.

Today he was sentenced to an extra 6 years and 6 months on top of time he's already serving.

He'll be eligible for parole in 2026 and is likely to face deportation to Portugal.
