Hiker winched to safety after spending night in dense southern Queensland bushland

A bushwalker who spent the night with rescuers after falling from a cliff in southern Queensland yesterday has been winched to safety.
Police and volunteers trekked for around three hours yesterday to reach the stricken 73-year-old man at Tomewin, on the state border with NSW and about 12km north of Murwillumbah.
The man, from Jacobs Well in Queensland’s south, suffered facial and arm injuries and a possible broken leg after falling from a cliff onto a ledge.
The injured man was today hauled 200m up the hilly landscape and winched out by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
He was taken by helicopter to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
His exhausted rescuers now face the arduous task of hiking back out of the extremely dense terrain, which could take up to three hours.
