A regular report on the long-term sustainability of Australian government policies has been pushed back by several months.

The five-yearly Intergenerational Report looks at how the country's population and age profile could impact on economic growth, the workforce and public finances over a 40-year period.

The next report was due for release in March but has been pushed back until July, after the federal budget is handed down and a retirement income review has concluded, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said on Monday.
