Remains found after fisherman dragged off by crocodile in Northern Territory

Human remains have been found inside a crocodile after a fisherman was attacked by one on the Adelaide River in the Northern Territory.

The man, believed to be 57, was taken by the crocodile near the Adelaide River bridge on the Arnhem Highway east of Darwin.

He was apparently trying to retrieve a fishing hook at the time he was taken by the crocodile.

Superintendent Jo Foley said the man’s wife raised the alarm after he was taken at around 6pm this evening.

“He was there with his wife and he was fishing on the water’s edge,” she said.

Police launched a search operation, and the NT News reported several gunshots were heard on the river about 9pm, with a crocodile being shot.

The remains, believed to be human, were discovered about 9.30pm.

It has not yet been made public whether the remains are those of the missing man.
