Religious leaders want more climate action

Religious leaders are calling on the nation's politicians to set more ambitious post-2020 carbon emissions reduction targets.

The heads of the Anglican and Uniting Churches, peak Hindu and Buddhist bodies, along with prominent leaders in the Catholic and Jewish communities, say there is a moral imperative for considerably higher targets.

In a letter to federal MPs they call for a 2025 target of 40 per cent below 1990 levels, and 80 per cent below by 2030 as well as increasing Australia's offer to the UN Climate Fund.
