Raw milk recalled after Vic toddler death

The owner of a company that produces organic bath milk linked to the death of a Victorian toddler wants people to wait for the coroner's findings before jumping to conclusions.

Mountain View Farm has voluntarily recalled its organic bath milk after the death of a three-year-old who reportedly consumed the product.

The Victorian health department has warned people against drinking raw milk after four children under five fell seriously ill.

Mountain View Farm issued a statement on its Facebook page on Friday, telling customers the product was being voluntarily recalled at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's (ACCC) request.

A second post offered condolences to the family of the child who died.

"We are a small family business, and as a mother of three children my heart goes out to the family that have lost their precious child and the unbearable pain they must be going through," the owner wrote.

"While we appreciate there has been a lot of speculation in the media, a lot of people jumping to conclusions, it is important that we wait for the coroner's findings."

The owner said the business was happy to co-operate with investigations.

ACCC deputy chairwoman Delia Rickard has urged consumers not to drink the milk.

"The message from health agencies is clear: do not drink unpasteurised milk," she said.

"If you have this product, do not drink it in any circumstances."

Regulators are considering whether raw milk labels mislead consumers. The product is often sold alongside consumable milk products.

Chief health officer Dr Rosemary Lester said people were drinking the milk knowingly because they believed it was healthier.
