Inmate sparks major security operation by climbing roof of Melbourne prison

An inmate has sparked a major security operation by climbing onto the roof of a Melbourne prison.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said officers were first called to the Ravenhall Correctional Centre in Melbourne's west about 10am this morning.
"Specialist police negotiators are en route to negotiate with the man and the situation remains very dynamic," the spokesperson said.

The prison is a medium security prison for sentenced and remand male prisoners and can house more than 1300 prisoners.
It is unclear how the prisoner scaled the roof.
