Rare Tree Kangaroo born at Victorian zoo

A newborn tree kangaroo in regional Victoria has been filmed peering out of its mother’s pouch.

Video shows the blue-eyed joey tentatively gazing at the surrounds of Healesville Sanctuary.

Its proud mother, Mani, can be see confidently looking at the cameras, seemingly showing off her precious bundle.

The unnamed youngster was born earlier this year to Mani and breeding partner Bagam, growing from the size of a jellybean to an increasingly independent roo.

“Over the coming months, the joey will continue to venture out of the pouch more and more,” the Sanctuary said in an official statement.

The curious joey, Mani, and Bagam are now on display as part of the Sanctuary’s Kangaroo Country exhibit.

Tree Kangaroos are considered a threatened species, with Healesville Sanctuary partnering with organisations across the globe to fight extinction.
