Victoria shivers through icy weekend

Victorians are set to shiver through the weekend as numerous cold fronts make their way across the state.

Snow is expected to fall in low-lying areas in the early morning today, with the Grampians and Macedon Ranges the most likely to see flurries.

In Melbourne, temperatures are only set to hover in the low 10s, with high winds increasing the chill factor.

There is also a threat of flooding, with the Bureau of Meteorology issuing minor and moderate flood warnings for Victoria's north east.

The wild weather began late on Thursday, with the SES responding to 220 calls by Friday.

Alpine areas were drenched, with Mount Hotham receiving more than 110mm of rain in 24 hours.

Rainfall is set to turn to snow on Saturday as temperatures reach zero in the mountain areas.

Three cold fronts are set to pass through Victoria in over the weekend and into next week, meaning conditions won't ease for a few days.

"I think we'll start to see an easing of the winds and showers by Tuesday and Wednesday," senior forecaster Michael Efron said yesterday.

The SES has advised people to secure any loose items and to not drive through flood waters.
