Raid on Monis's apartment found home filled with junk

Police trawled through Man Haron Monis's junk-filled home as the gunman held 18 hostages at a café in Sydney's inner city on Monday.

When officers swooped on the 50-year-old's apartment in Wiley Park, in Sydney's southwest, they found his garage door left open, revealing a jumble of shopping bags, paint tins, a door off its hinges and a bathroom cabinet, News Corp reports.

Clothes were left drying on his balcony.

Neighbour Losaline Taiamoni said she saw police taking away about a dozen bags of evidence.

She said she recognised Monis on TV during the siege as the man she had waved to sitting only metres away on his balcony, drinking coffee and smoking, but he never waved back.

The apartment reportedly was rented in March, with the lease in the name of Monis's wife, Amirah Droudis.

Monis previously had been living with Ms Droudis and her family at their home 3km away in Belmore.
