Red Symons has made a series of bizarre and racially loaded comments in an interview on his ABC radio show this morning.

The former Hey Hey It's Saturday regular and Skyhooks guitarist was quizzing podcast host Beverley Wang on ABC Radio Melbourne a few days ago.

An edited version of the interview was broadcast but the full audio was only just released by Wang herself overnight.

Wang was speaking about her podcast "It's Not A Race" when Symons said he had a similar idea for a segment.

"Except my segment was called 'What's the deal with Asians?'"

A minute later, he asked Wang: "Are you yellow?"

The interview continued with another uncomfortably and almost passive-aggressive line of questioning.

"Do they speak Mandarin or Cantonese?" Symons asked.

"Who's they?" Wang replied.

"The people in Taiwan!" Symons exclaimed.

"They speak Taiwanese and they speak Mandarin. And in Canada, where I'm from, they speak English and French," Wang said.

"But you're probably from the west coast of Canada," Symons said.

"Why's that?" Wang replied.

"Because it's closer to Asia."

They would go on to discuss the infamous Hey Hey It's Saturday blackface incident.
