RAAF tanker aircraft deemed fixed

Defence has removed its new Airbus KC-30A tanker aircraft, which is refuelling coalition aircraft in the skies over Iraq, from its list of troubled acquisition projects.

After running more than four years late, the project to provide the RAAF with five modern airborne refuelling and transport aircraft has been deemed fixed.

Defence Materiel Organisation acting head Harry Dunstall said the final problem - certification of the aircraft's boom refuelling system - had been resolved.

That will allow the KC-30A to refuel larger aircraft such as the RAAF's C-17 and Wedgetails.

One of the aircraft has been flying in the Middle East since last September, refuelling Australian and other coalition warplanes on missions against Islamic State.
