Queenslanders swelter through hottest Christmas Day in 16 years
Queenslanders sweated through a summer scorcher for Christmas Day, with temperatures reaching 46 degrees is some areas, making it one of the hottest Christmases in years.
The hot weather a perfect setting for many to enjoy their day by the beach.
“Instead of a snowman we wanted to make a sand Santa instead,” one Queenslander told 9NEWS.

“Very hot, very hot, perfect Christmas weather.”
The mercury climbed to a top of 46 degrees in Birdsville, which was the hottest place in the state.
In Brisbane, Ipswich and the Gold Coast in hit 36 degrees, making it the warmest Christmas since 2001.
“Certainty hotter than normal, we’re about five or six degrees above average,” the Bureau of Meteorology Gordon Banks told 9NEWS.
