Queensland set for welcome week-long deluge

The first full week of February kicked off with sweltering heat in Queensland, but it's not set to last.

Road surfaces outside Toowoomba heated up to 60C, with Harry Clark from the Bureau of Meteorology saying temperatures were between four and 10 degrees above average.

Ipswich hit 39.1C, and Gatton topped the state at 40.7C.

Brisbane was only a few degrees cooler at 34.5C.

Tomorrow, however, showers are expected across the south-east, as well as large parts of drought-ravaged western Queensland.

And the rain is forecast to last all week.

Mr Clark said about 30mm a day were expected for the Maranoa, Warrego and Western Darling Downs.

Mayor of Warwick, Tracey Dobie, said farmers had been able to plant their summer crops, with expectations the highest they'd been in half a decade.
