Queensland teachers to dodge soaring temperatures with proposed school holidays date change

Queensland teachers are calling for school holiday dates to change to avoid children sitting in non-air conditioned classrooms during the hottest part of the year.

A new proposal from the state's teacher's union is calling for their school term to end closer to Christmas and begin in the first week of February.

It's hoped the date change will help keep kids out of the classroom and in the cool when temperatures are at their highest.

Queensland's school year resumed on January 22 this year, with the mercury soaring to 40 degrees at some schools.

The issue is set to be contested in the coming months, with the state opposition saying they will install air conditioners in every QLD classroom, if elected.
