Queensland teacher barred for six years after seducing student
A 36-year-old Queensland high school teacher who had an affair with a 16-year-old student has been barred from teaching for six years.
The married teacher was found out after his wife discovered Facebook exchanges between the pair on his phone and sent the Year 11 girl a message demanding the affair stop.
The teacher and student exchanged more than 10,000 Facebook messages, many of them romantic and sexual in nature, the Courier-Mail reports.
They developed a relationship over three months in late 2013 after revealing to each other they had been sexually abused by relatives as children, the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal heard.
The teacher gave the teenage girl a bracelet, a teddy bear and sent her roses.
He went to her home when the girl was alone and they had sex in her bedroom on at least three occasions.
The tribunal said the teacher took advantage of the student "for his own sexual gratification" and on February 25 cancelled his registration.
He is barred from reapplying to teach for six years.
