The Queensland government has promised to install air-conditioning in every state school across the state by 2022, despite long insisting it would be too expensive.

There are 650 schools across the state yet to have air-conditioning installed in classrooms, staff rooms and libraries, at a forecast cost of $477 million.

Eighty thousand new solar panels will also be installed on school roofs to help meet the electricity costs.  The LNP announced a plan to air-condition every Queensland school in 2018.

Until today the government has consistently criticised the plan, saying it would take too long and be too expensive.

The government also failed to meet its previous target to air-condition 300 schools by day one, term one, this year.

But the Premier insists this won't be the case this time.

"I am absolutely positive it will be done," Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
