Firefighters continue to battle multiple grass fires burning in Moreton Bay, Queensland.

Students at Narangba State School, on School Street, were moved to a nearby community centre as a precaution this afternoon, as grassfires burned near Narangba Road and Boundary Road at Kurwongbah.

Video captured by Twitter user Jarred Maunder shows plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

The fires have now been contained, however crews will remain at the scene into the night as smoke continues to affect nearby areas.

Residents in Kurwongbah, Narangba and Dakabin have been advised to close their doors and windows.

Meanwhile, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has issued a Watch and Act alert for residents near Fernvale, west of Brisbane, with a large bushfire in the area.

Nineteen fire crews are working to contain that blaze, however they are experiencing difficulty controlling it.

There are no threat to homes at this time, the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) advised.

Firefighters will remain in the area overnight and into tomorrow.

The blaze is expected to burn for a number of days, QFES warned.
