Queensland premier offers $1b for schools in election promise
Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has brought out the big guns halfway through the election campaign, today promising a billion dollars for schools and $590 million for business research and development.
P-platers have also been promised free licences, and families in the state’s south-east will save $99 on water bills.
“We’re the only team that can provide reduced water and power bills for families,” Mr Newman said.
Opposition leader Annastacia Palaszczuk, near Cairns today, said all Mr Newman’s plans relied on asset sales.
Treasurer Tim Nicholls has attacked her economic strategy.
Meanwhile, the Palmer United Party staged its own campaign launch, without the eponymous party founder Clive Palmer.
Candidate John Bjelke-Peterson said Mr Palmer had the flu and did not want to share it around.
