Queensland police warn Putin's security team not to bring guns to Brisbane

The Queensland police commissioner has sent a blunt warning to Vladimir Putin's security team if they land in Brisbane today carrying weapons: you will be "dealt with".

Commissioner Ian Stewart said police had not received any applications for overseas security personnel to carry firearms, the Courier Mail reports.

Mr Stewart was asked what would happen if members or Mr Putin's entourage arrived in Brisbane with guns, he replied "they will be dealt with under the laws of this state".

"We've made that very clear, as has the Federal Government," Mr Stewart said.

"We will take the appropriate action relation to any breach of Queensland's weapon act."

Each one of the 26 nations scheduled to attend the G20 summit was able to apply to bring weapons amongst its security team, with applications first assessed by the Commonwealth before being passed to Queensland Police for the final approval.

The US is expected to seek to have their Secret Service agents, which number in the hundreds, armed for when President Barack Obama lands in Brisbane tomorrow morning.

Security teams granted permission to carry firearms are able to use the gun "to protect dignitaries, security personnel and members of the public from risk or harm".
