Hi-tech drug ring busted with counterfeit cash, explosives

Police have cracked an alleged drug ring spanning Queensland, described as a sophisticated enterprise.

Queensland Police said detectives from Taskforce Maxima were sent to the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay-Burnett districts from January 13 to 18.

Police executing search warrants allegedly found illegal drugs including methylamphetamines, cannabis plants and a crop, and steroids.

Police also allegedly seized a mobile phone frequency jammer, counterfeit money, cash, ammunition and fireworks.

Thirteen  people face 34 charges, including possession and production of drugs and possession of explosives.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith said he was pleased with the outcome of the raids.

“This deployment saw officers from the taskforce work with regional police to target the unlawful activities of criminal gangs and their networks,” Insp Smith said.

He added that the items seized indicated the sophistication of the criminal activity.
