Two people have died, one person is fighting for life and two others have been seriously injured after two utes towing trailers crashed in a rural town in Queensland's Western Downs Region.

Police said initial reports suggested a black 2010 Holden Colorado and a white 2013 Holden Colorado collided on the Warrego Highway near Drillham about 6.20am.

A 41-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the black Colorado and a 25-year-old man, a passenger in the white Colorado, both died at the scene.

Two male passengers of the black Colorado, aged 33 and 49, were airlifted to hospital in critical and serious conditions.

The driver of the white Colorado, a 23-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Emergency crews remain at the scene and the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Warrego Highway has been closed off with diversions in place at Drillham and Dulacca.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has any dashcam vision, is urged to contact police.
