Queensland mother pleads for closure over daughter’s cold case murder

The family of murdered Queensland teenager Annette Jane Mason is calling for a fresh inquest into her death, desperate to know who killed her almost 26 years ago.

The 15-year-old Toowoomba girl was found bludgeoned to death in her bed on November 19, 1989, and no one has been charged with her murder.

Annette’s mother, Judith Andersen, has written an emotional appeal to Queensland Attorney-General Yvette D’ath, requesting a new inquiry.

Annette’s sister Linda Mason said the family wanted an inquest to get justice for Annette and closure for her family.

“I think it’s been very disheartening for our family to see it brought up so many times without a resolution,” she said.

Retired homicide detective Bob Dallow said an inquiry could be the key to solving the mystery.

“Every cold case, every investigation – if anyone knows anything they are duty bound to come forward,” he said.

“It might just be the little bit of information that solves the case.”

In a statement to 9NEWS, Ms D’ath said any evidence to warrant a new inquiry should be brought to police or her department.

A Change petition for the inquiry has attracted more than 2500 signatures, and a Facebook page for the Justice for Annette campaign has been established.

Since the campaign began, four people have made contact with Crime Stoppers.
