Queensland man charged with 2009 murder in rare double jeopardy case
A man acquitted for a 2009 murder has been charged with the same crime again, in just the second time a Queensland court will exercise double jeopardy laws.
Detectives from Logan, south of Brisbane, re-opened their murder investigation after they received "fresh and compelling evidence" in December.
A man was arrested and charged today, and an application will be made to the Queensland Court of Appeal to apply for a previously acquitted person to be retried for the offence of murder.

Detective Inspector Chris Knight said the arrest showed the persistence of investigators to achieve justice for victims of crime.
Knight also acknowledged the importance of members of the public sharing information with police.
Currently, double jeopardy prohibits successive prosecutions for the same offence, with the exception of murder and some tainted acquittals.
The attorney-general has indicated the government may expand the exception to other serious offences.
